چکیده
2 SUMMARY Several authors have reported the association of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia with oxidative stress, systemic inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. Our aim was to investigate the effect of high-calorie meal on blood markers of oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction and the association of APOA5-1131T/C and-250G/A hepatic lipase (HL) polymorphisms with postprandial triglyceride response. This study included 102 healthy male volunteers. All participants consumed a high-calorie meal (800 calories, 50 g fat, 28 g protein, 60 g carbohydrates). and ICAM-1 were measured at fasting state and postprandially. APOA5-1131T/C and-250G/A HL polymorphisms were also determined. Concentration of triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, TAS and ICAM-1 differed significantly between the fasting state and postprandial measurements (P<0.001). However, those differences were within the limits of analytical imprecision. Other parameters did not change 3 hours after the meal. Triglycerides response did not differ respective to the APOA5 and HL polymorphisms. Family history of hypertension and acute myocardial infarction were associated with higher postprandial triglyceride concentrations. 3 Postprandial hypertriglyceridemia is not associated with increased concentrations of hsCRP, TAS and ICAM-1. Furthermore, APOA5-1131T/C and-250G/A HL polymorphisms are not associated with different postprandial triglyceride response. 4 List of Abbreviations: APOA5, apolipoprotein A5 BMI, body mass index CAD, coronary artery disease ELISA, enzymimmunoassay HL, hepatic lipase hsCRP, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein ICAM-1, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 PAI-1, plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 PCR, polymerase chain reaction RFLP, restriction fragment length polymorphism RT-PCR, real time PCR TAS, total antioxidant status TNF-α, tumor necrosis factor-α VCAM-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1

متن کاملEvidence for an independent and cumulative effect of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia on endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress generation: effects of short- and long-term simvastatin treatment.
BACKGROUND Postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia are considered risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Evidence suggests that postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia induce endothelial dysfunction through oxidative stress; however, the distinct role of these two factors is a matter of debate. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty type 2 diabetic patients and 20 normal subject...
متن کاملLack of effect of a high-calorie dextrose or maltodextrin meal on postprandial oxidative stress in healthy young men.
BACKGROUND Carbohydrate powder in the form of maltodextrin is widely used by athletes for postexercise glycogen resynthesis. There is some concern that such a practice may be associated with a postprandial rise in reactive oxygen and nitrogen species production and subsequent oxidation of macromolecules. This is largely supported by findings of increased oxidative-stress biomarkers and associat...
متن کاملEffect of raisin consumption on oxidative stress and inflammation in obesity.
AIM Oxidative stress can initiate increased inflammation that elevates risk for cardiovascular disease. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of daily consumption of raisins on markers of oxidative stress, inflammation and endothelial activation in response to an acute high-fat meal in overweight individuals. METHODS Seventeen overweight men and women consumed 90 g raisins ...
متن کاملGene Expression, Oxidative Stress, and Senescence of Primary Coronary Endothelial Cells Exposed to Postprandial Serum of Healthy Adult and Elderly Volunteers after Oven-Cooked Meat Meals
Epidemiological studies have linked high consumption of meat with major age-related diseases including cardiovascular diseases. Abnormal postprandial increases in plasma lipids after a meat meal have been hypothesized among the pathogenetic mechanisms. However, it is still unknown if the postprandial serum derived after a normal meat meal is able to affect endothelial function, and if the type ...
